More than 15 million recalled air bags still due for repair

AAA is reaching out to drivers to encourage them to have a large number of air bags repaired or replaced as soon as they can. A recall was issued in 2015 covering vehicles in Louisiana and across the country that had certain Takata air bags installed. These air bags pose a serious risk to both drivers and passengers, and roughly 15.4 million vehicles remain on the road with these air bags equipped. According to a senior manager of traffic safety for AAA, the air bags will be repaired for free at dealerships all over the country.

Global recall issued for breast implants linked to rare cancer

Women in Louisiana and elsewhere around the country are advised to be aware of the possible risks associated with textured breast implants. This comes after the U.S. Food and Drug Administration asked the manufacturer of Biocell textured breast implants and tissue expanders to issue a voluntary recall. The reason is because of a link to a rare form of cancer.

Porsche recalls Panamera sedans and Cayenne SUVs

Almost 100,000 Porsche owners in Louisiana and around the country will soon be receiving recall notices in the mail. The German carmaker recently announced that 99,665 Cayenne SUVs produced between 2003 and 2010 and Panamera sedans built between 2010 and 2016 have transmission bushings that will likely need to be replaced. The recall is scheduled to begin on Aug. 11 according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

Newer hernia mesh products may have defects

First developed in the 1950s, hernia mesh products have become an accepted method for repairing hernias. However, Louisiana residents should be aware that not all of these products are safe. Many are defective and may lead to long-term injuries and additional surgery. While severe pain is considered only a minor side effect in these cases, the worst complications include bowel obstruction and infection.

Uber and Lyft vehicles may not be in prime condition

According to a Consumer Reports study, there is a chance that individuals in Louisiana who use Uber or Lyft are riding in vehicles that have a current recall. The recalls range from the use of Takata airbags to engine defects that could result in a vehicle stalling. Consumer Reports acknowledges that it is unclear if anyone has been injured while in an Uber or Lyft vehicle that has a current recall.

Fiat Chrysler recalls Dodge Darts with shifter defect

Fiat Chrysler Automobiles N.V. has just announced a recall of more than 320,000 Dodge Dart compact cars all of North America. Louisiana residents should know that the 2013 to 2016 model automatic transmission Dart cars may have a defective part that allows the shift cable to detach from the transmission, preventing vehicles from shifting into park.

Fisher-Price addresses infant risk death in Rock 'n Play Sleeper

Parents in Louisiana should take note if they own a Fisher-Price Rock 'n Play Sleeper. The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, together with Fisher-Price, has issued a warning that all models of the Rock 'n Play Sleeper, an inclined baby seat, can put babies at risk for injuries or death if they roll over in the product.

Tesla fire after crash sparks concerns

Some Tesla owners in Louisiana may be concerned about reports of fiery crashes involving the automaker's vehicles. The all-electric cars are known for both their luxury and innovation, but some people are questioning their safety after a February crash in Florida. In the incident, a Tesla Model S suddenly left the roadway, swerving through three lanes of traffic before hitting a median and trees. There, the car burst into flames. The one-car accident killed the Tesla's driver.

Blood pressure medication recalled after contamination

Louisiana patients may be concerned about potential risks to their health if they have taken certain blood pressure tablets that contained trace amounts of a known human carcinogen. Two lots of Losartan potassium tablets, used to treat high blood pressure and other disorders linked to Type 2 Diabetes, were voluntarily recalled by Torrent Pharmaceuticals. The company announced the recall of two lots of the medication on the Food and Drug Administration website.
